A new law allows paying one quarter of the earliest delinquent year without interest when paying current taxes, with conditions and prior-year grouping noted. Newberg Vieter Robert Sturdivant of Newberg a former Myrtle Point resident arrived Tuesday for a short stay in the city on business.
Acel Carlose Beckwith, 3, is accused of obtaining money by pretenses and cashing two bad checks totaling about 30 dollars at North Bend. R. A Deeter, 46, is jailed in Coquille on a fee and fined. Donald R. Hardesty, 15, was arrested for taking goods at Charleston. Leo Crews, 17, and William Keel, 18, were held for allegedly stealing rape at Marshfield and sentenced to 30 days in county jail.
Royal Neighbors held an officer election and planned a Christmas gift exchange. Officers elected include oracle Mrs John Felsh er, vice president Mrs Frank Hazelwood, recorder Mrs Marlin Evans, chancellor Mrs A R Davenport, and others. Mrs Ro OH Lemon was chosen as state convention delegate and Mrs Frank Tripp as alternate. A chili crackers and coffee reception followed, with the next meeting set for December 23 at the VF ball.
The November library report shows 1 110 books read by adults and 313 by children totaling 1 433. Magazines loaned 230 with 44 new registrations and income from rentals 899 and fines 413. Approximate funds 16.12. Some clubs have not submitted reports.
Alfred Newton eldest son of Mrs Berth Lewis Newton of Powers was killed instantly on Eden Ridge when a log slid from a cold deck. Born May 38 1913 at Coos City he moved to Powers as a child and attended local schools. Funeral services by Scarceder Funeral Home will be held Friday at the Bible Standard church with Rev Eugene Armstrong officiating. Interment in Masonic Cemetery at Powers. Survivors include his mother one sister Myrtle Marshfield two brothers Billy and Clare and grandmother Mrs L D Penman.
The Methodist Ladies Aid will host its annual bazaar on Saturday December 12 in the church basement starting at 10 a m. The event offers fancy work cook foods and candy for sale with light refreshments served in the afternoon.
Fred Mast, 62, died at 2 30 p m December 5 1896 at his home in McKinley after heart trouble. He was a lifelong resident, son of Kili P Mast and Emma line Mast, who moved from North Carolina to the Dora area in the 1870s. His death closes a long association with the community.
At a regular meeting the Junior Women's Club announced three scrapbooks for Mast hospital Myrtle Point and a fourth book prepared before the gathering. They voted $2.50 for the annual community Christmas tree and discussed a candlelight dessert supper with a small attendance fee and no solicitation for food or work. The club reported $3.80 cleared from the Christmas Seal gala last month.
Townsend program directed by Mrs. C. E. Vance at the club hall on Seventh and Maple featured one act plays, ski, vocal and instrumental music. A. L Volkmar led a 12 musician band in costume and Faye Jean Hall performed acrobatic stunts. Coffee doughnuts and sandwiches were served after.
Arago High School presents a three act comedy The Men From Texas at 8pm Friday in the Arago gymnasium. Alvin Fredenburg stars as Jonathan Rogs with Jean Watkins and Marguerite Robison in key roles, as the play follows payroll bandits and farm inn intrigue through witty action.
Broadbent post office enlarges with a new distribution room and raised roof. Postmaster W A Roselle, longtime head of the Broadbent mail service, says several improvements have been made to improve operations.

Aldene Crook of Coquille loses sight in one eye after an infection traced to a throat spray. She has undergone weeks of treatment at a Coquille hospital. Migs Crook, daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Crook of South Myrtle Point, is mentioned in connection with the case.
Mr and Mrs Herman L Gray and their 15 year old daughter purchased the Brandt Taylor acre ranch at Sitkum in a Tuesday closure. They plan to move Sunday from Myrtle Creek and will hunt fish and garden in the new area. The Oberman family, current residents, move back to Dora after vacating.

John Billings reports a survey in Coos county showing about 200 families have moved in since 1930 across eight randomly chosen districts. Most newcomers came from California followed by South Dakota Nebraska and Colorado with settlers from nearly every state.
