The traditional Sunday school Christmas program is set for December 16.
North Bend residents gather Saturday December 8 to hear architect Mie Landa present museum plans for a county Historical Museum. The public meeting follows a no host luncheon at noon and invites all interested in shaping the building.
The Presbyterian Sunday school will present the pageant Curse and Worship at Maple Street School on Sunday evening December 16 at 7 pm. About 100 children and youths will participate with musical solos and group singing directed by Mrs William Geuster. Pageant director is Mrs Kenneth Galloway with costumes headed by Mrs Milton Mast and general supervision by Mrs Theodore Smith. Rehearsals are scheduled for Saturday with preschool at 10 am and grade school through 4th grade at 9 am followed by pageant participants at 1 pm.
Reports say a man in an old blue Buick has tried to pick up women late at night in Myrtle Point. He allegedly pulls up beside lone pedestrians, offers a ride, and reportedly tried to force one woman into the car. Police urge anyone with facts to report to Chief Bill Tankersley.
The Interchurch Fellowship announces a December meeting at First Christian Church on December 10 with a potluck dinner at 700 pm followed by program and business. Annual church election occurs Sunday December 9 with ballots posted in the vestibule inviting members to vote.
Fire destroyed the new post office building at Norway last Thursday morning. The property of Brodie Shingle Co, completed a month ago and occupied about three weeks, with Mrs Darrell Brodie as postmaster. Insurance covered the structure. Mrs Brodie’s losses were about 500 dollars. An emergency post office was set up in the Norway store run by Don Schmidt.
The Rogue River district garden clubs of Cuus and Curry counties staged a three day Xmas decoration exhibition at the North Bend Community building December 1 and 2. The event showcased Christmas ideas with flowers and plants as prominent features drawing record crowds and honoring several local exhibitors including Mrs Keith Cones Arago Cindy Ann Slugs Arago Mrs E Harper Arnage Mrs Lloyd Huntley Myrtle Point and Mrs Frank Wiebke Myrtle Point.
The Myrtle Point post office relocated from Fourth and Spruce to Fifth and Ash streets in a Henry A Schroeder firm project. Old equipment remains temporarily. new gear arrives in January with a dedication open to local residents. A drive-up curb mailbox is also added.
Al Pierce Lumber Co agreed to acquire Coast Pacific Timber Co properties in Southwestern Oregon including mills at Bunker Hill Coquille and Myrtle Point. The deal also covers Coast Pacific woods operations in Coos and Curry counties with most timber rights in the region. Price not disclosed and expansion plans call for full capacity operation and Myrtle Point mill growth. The San Francisco closing occurred last Friday.
Community appeal to aid 21 500 Hungarian refugees fleeing Soviet devastation. Myrtle Point drive led by Mrs W L Bell with American Legion aid seeks clean winter clothing at Legion hall Seventh and Maple open all day Thursday December 6. Donations urgently needed to supply refugees with warm garments.
