Mast Hospital converts to an extended care unit with Harry Reynolds officer in charge of Coos Bay Social Security office. Casper Paulson, current administrator of Mast, is pictured on the right.
Nancy Lee Meyer Cunningham of Burlington Colorado is named in the Outstanding Young Women of America list. The bio notes her 1950s schooling and teaching career in multiple cities, marriage to Rev Pearl Cunningham, a son named Robert, and ongoing studies in music and education at the University of Colorado.
Five lectures on Black Power drugs music censorship and art are set for Fridays January 17 through February 14 at 9 45 to 11 30 a m in the Coos Bay Library. The talks are part of the Other Voters Other Views series sponsored by the Division of Continuing Education and arranged by Dr Howard Akers. Dr Edgar H Smith of Oregon College of Education will start with Knowing the Score an illustrated informal talk.

Harold Clark, a logging contractor from Susanville, is presumed dead after a plane incident between Redding and Susanville on November 21. A long search by Civil Recovery from Hamilton Field and local residents failed to locate the wreckage due to snow and poor weather. Clark leaves a wife Elaine La Clair and three children. his father George Clark and son Jasper assist in the ongoing area search.
The &h Annual PEO Christmas Tour runs Saturday December 7 from 1 to 6 pm with visits to the Bergen home 1724 N 14th Coos Bay Williams home 1010 Hemlock Coos Bay and the Coos Bay Library Auditorium. Tickets cost 1.50 at the first stop and tours benefit scholarships including Cottey College. Local kitchens feature a Mexican motif and turquoise and gold decor while the library presents The Pages of Christmas with book themed table settings.
Myrtle Point rancher Fred Gross was elected president of the Western Oregon Livestock Association at the November 22 Roseburg meeting. He has long been active in the group, previously serving as vice president and on the executive board. The association represents beef sheep and swine producers across 15 western Oregon counties and has over 1600 members.
Farmers and ranchers who converted tree or brush land to grazing land may receive lower fire patrol taxes, says Tom Guerin chair of the Coos County Land Classification Committee.
