Accelerated funds support forestry jobs in Coos County
Congressman Robert B. Duncan announced that $887,000 from the Department of Interior will fund forestry conservation projects in Oregon's 4th District under the Accelerated Public Works Program. The effort, on public lands and parks, aims to create jobs and improve timber and water resources. In Josephine County the $166,000 Bureau of Land Management project will start late August, creating 120 man-months and including tree hazard reduction and seed collection on 2,800 acres. A $137,000 project will build Elk Creek Forest roads, starting October. In Douglas County a $288,000 multipurpose forest improvement project will run nine months, creating 372 man-months and addressing snag removal, site improvement, reforestation, and sanitation facilities at Wolf Creek and Little River.
