Myrtle Point Bank Reaches Over One Million In Deposits
Security Bank of Myrtle Point reports deposits surpassing 1 million for the first time. Cashier Merry G Dement cites 1 087 800 on the 12th with assets and bonds boosting reserve over 900 000. Local business and ranchers drive the growth as the bank remains a Federal Deposit Insurance member.

Arago Dairy Club Domination In Two Day Stock Judging
Gerald Lillie of the Arago Dairy club topped Cope county as the best stock judge during a two day judging tour held across Coos and Curry counties August 6 and 7. Teammates tied for second were Junior Guietrom and Pat Blondell with Elvin Fetch Rex Pierce and Bob Blondell also placing in the top ranks as a three way tie for third. About 441 members and leaders participated as the tour covered hogs dairy cattle beef cattle sheep and dairy farming demonstrations at several farms near Coquille Broadbent and Langlois with J J Allen noting strong interest throughout.

Two Men Die In Brewster Valley Auto Crash
Kenneth Donaldson a 34 year old logging engineer from Dora and Joseph Damewood a Sitkum logging operator were killed in an auto accident Sunday near Devil's Gate Brewster valley. Both men died after their car left the road and rolled down a steep bank. Donaldson died shortly after arrival at a Bitkum CCC camp hospital while Damewood succumbed Monday at Mast hospital. Wreck was discovered by Donaldson's wife who saw they were not following and sought aid. Six men carried each victim up the embankment to the road. Donaldson born April 17 1907 in Corral Minnesota had lived around Coquille since Jerry 4 of Brewster valley. Damewood born June 13 1906 in Albany. Funeral services held in Cottage Grove with burial there.

Log Operators Form Regional Association in Oregon
Logging operators from Coos Curry and Douglas counties met in Myrtle Point at city hall to form an association. A temporary committee drafted a constitution and by laws with plans to admit members and possibly hire a full time secretary. Committee members include A Pointer Myrtle Point chair Julius Benham Aulkum Fairley Goodwin Remote N Ansen Coquille and N B Marsh Port Orford.

A merchandise trap shoot is planned Sunday at the Coquille Valley Country Club with registration until 10 am. Lunch is served from noon to 2 pm, followed by additional prizes for post lunch play. Prizes for the morning event are provided by local Coquille merchants.

Reservations for Myrtle Point race meet growing
Thirty six reservations have already been made for horse races at the Myrtle Point fairgrounds. L H Pearce secretary of the Fair Association said the board will meet Tuesday night at the Country Club to finalize plans for the September 1 to 13 fair. The program includes rodeo events and grounds improvements with hopes of a strong, quality exhibition for the community.

Lions Sponsor Pig Raising Through FFA
The Myrtle Point Lions Club will sponsor a Chester White sow for FFA pig raising. The sow, bought via the Pacific International Livestock Association at Portland, will be shown at the Coos County Fair September 10 to 13 and loaned to active FFA boys. After producing a litter, the sow goes back to the fair association with two gifts and is loaned to others, with a committee guiding the program and drawing up a contract with the boys and the Fair association.
