Chet Weed finishes a Myrtle News Stand interior renovation with new fixtures and relighting by McCafree Electric. Window and center-aisle changes completed over several weeks, mostly after hours, while exterior painting progresses. Breuer's Shoes and The Herald Office join in fresh color schemes as Fair week approaches.
Don Trezell hosts a grand opening at 702 Roseburg Road on Saturday featuring free coffee donuts and factory saw demonstrations. The shop offers service filing wedges and accessories with a remodeled front and new cement foundation. The event highlights McCulloch chainsaws including a 60 inch bar model. Mr and Mrs Trewell and their children reside at 112 Spruce.
Mrs. Dickey gave birth to a son named John Kenneth Eugene Dickey soon after the father departed for service. The Marine Corps sends new recommendations for families in Okinawa, delaying the father's homecoming. The couple already has a five month old Melvin Eugene and another son, David Alien, about 30 months old, awaiting his father.
After a one week holiday the Stop and Shop drawing resumes at Myrthe Point next Saturday the 12th with a $100 prize. Sponsors atras decided to postpone from the 3rd to the 10th to avoid conflict with the Fall.
The 50th Anniversary Coos County Parade marks the start of a five day Fair Week. Highlights include tennis exhibitions, student art, and grandstand ceremonies. The main draw is a top-match rodeo by Christenson Brothers stock, with free Friday rodeo for under fifteens when accompanied by an adult.
Scheduled for Monday August 14 to Tuesday August 16, the 4H talent event is set at the 4 H building in Cy. Local streetors and participants will showcase acts across the three day period.
M M Romig acting administrator of the College announced that SWOC accepts full and part time applications for day and evening courses in liberal arts, business, and technical vocational fields. To ensure processing before August 15 applications should be submitted promptly, with late filings possible though course availability may be limited. The Technical-Vocational Division will be housed on the Coos Bay campus at Marshfield High School Roat branch where it has operated for several years.
