The Herald prints a telegram from Representative Harris Ellsworth of Washington DC stating that $3 million will be available next year for forest access development. Ellsworth outlines planned use and emphasis on road and trail improvements.
Coos Bay area candidate and local attorney Ellsworth, born in Bandon and lifelong resident of Coos County except for college and World War II service, seeks the State Senate nomination for Curry and Coos counties. He notes a proposed forest access road funding shift to 25 million, with maintenance and construction figures under debate. Ellsworth’s telegram to The Herald arrived after last week’s deadline.
Ray Baird reports that 12 Bandon golfers will visit Myrtle Point on Sunday May 6 for a day tournament with Coquille Valley players. Local golfers should sign up with Buck Elliott at the Country Club. the first twelve to register gain priority to represent the club.

Frank Wiebe presented awards. Sally Schroeder gave the main address.
Mrs Leta Davis recently took over the Spruce Shop at 431 Spruce and renames it Leta's. Grand opening coincides with Myrtle Point's Dollar Day events, offering free gifts including Hawaiian items and balloons for shoppers over 18 or accompanied by a child.

Gov Elmo Smith convenes a Little White House education conference for Coos County at Blossom Gulch school in Coos Bay on Tuesday April 24 at 8. Eugene H Fisher of Elkton Oregon, a participant in the Washington DC White House Conference on Education, will address the meeting.
Myrtle Point’s Pioneer Day hosted by the Women’s club will be at the Presbyterian church next Wednesday afternoon at 1 30. All area pioneers are invited and urged to attend with an Ancelahsiate program planned. Transportation for attendees without rides will be provided by Mrs Verne Lundy.
Dora Friendly Club in Dora announces a three act comedy Hill Billy Courtship at the school house this Friday and Saturday evening. The Herald announces a Dollar Day event next Saturday in Myrtle Point offering a year’s subscription at half price when a current subscriber brings in a new subscriber. Coos county residents can get a year for $2.00. payment for multiple years accepted. A complete subscriber list will be published.
The Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Spring Dollar Day parade offering 100 in prize money for best entries by children 12 and under. Participants meet at Maple street 1 PM, form by age, then parade from Maple to Eighth and Spruce, ending at Brodie Shingle Co. before returning to Brookdale Dairy for free ice cream. Any entry accepted and judged by Bill Downing and Ray Getchell.
The Union High School District No. 2 plans a May 10 vote from 2 PM to 8 PM on exceeding the six percent tax limit. The district projects increased receipts from 108 407 to 120 219 and a budget rise from 7 400 to 8 435 reflecting higher salaries and services. Two new teachers and a revised salary scale are noted as causes for the higher instruction costs.
Pacific Power and Light invites the public to the formal opening of its new 160000.06 service center in Coos Bay at Broadway and Lockhart Streets. The event runs 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. with guides, demonstrations of radio dispatching equipment, and refreshments. Myrtle Point Bobcats track team won the Hayward Relays marking the school's first ever team title. Competing against 24 schools, the Cats scored 251.5 points to outpace rivals and claim the big gold trophy. Standout performers included Beck Lawrence Toddson De Ward and Jesse Adams with multiple top finishes.
Thirty two chamber members toured the Pyramid Block Co plant in Myrtle Point as part of a planned visitation. Jack Ellis and other managers explained block production methods showing how the mixtures are prepared and blocks are formed and cured. The demonstration ran through the morning with visitors learning about the manufacturing process.
Taxpayers are urged to study the proposed budget of Elementary listed School District No 416. The notice highlights the need for public input on the tax levy and district spending.
