He was born October 11, 188? in Dotto, unknown. survived by his wife Cora Steele, brother Delbert B Steele, sister Mrs Leule Varrier and others in Coquille and nearby, and an uncle Robert M Burns.
Nellie Tayloe Ross, director of the United States Mint, appeals to the public to return pennies stored in homes to save copper for defense needs. Coin deliveries rose after Korea, with 1,115,000 pieces produced in eight months and over 857,000,000 of them being one cent coins. Banks and businesses will help restore pennies to circulation.
Lee Powell, longtime coach at Myrtle Point, died at his Corvallis home. He guided Speedway and popular teams and is survived by his widow and son Donny.
