Dick Evans of Myrtle Point F F A received the state farmers degree during the Corvallis convention March 16 to 19. He becomes the 25th chapter member to earn the degree since 1929 and was elected Rogue-Umpqua district vice president in the non state association. Evans farms with his father, Russell, owns ten head of dairy stock. Others attending were Howard Wolff Meldon Gasner Vernon Sell and Adviser K W Crow. Myrtle Point F F A officers for the coming year were President Earl Wilson Vice President Dick Brewster Secretary Howard Wolff Treasurer Melden Gasner Reporter Vernon Sell Sentinel Harold Miller.
Teachers and pupils invite parents friends and preschoolers to an Open House Friday at 12 30 April 9 featuring the skit The House That Jack Built Easter parade folk dances songs and other dramatizations. Visitors encouraged to arrive early to tour rooms before the 1 30 program.
Alaska will be shown at the Myrtle Point Junior High Gym under police and volunteer fire department sponsorship. The two hour film depicts Alaska wildlife ice break up Eskimo village life and glacier scenes with a focus on salmon and volcanic activity. Adults pay $1.00 and students receive a discount.
At the Monday meeting the council reviewed 1954 street improvement projects proposed by the city engineer. Four improvement districts would form along Maple and Spruce streets and sections of Bender Street to pave unpaved segments with blacktop. Estimated costs run to about 4 146 00 for Maple and 6 682 00 for Spruce, with per lot charges shown.

Myrtle Point High School selects Ilene Thompson Alice Miller Louise Cook Ervin Royer Jane Williams Carol Porter St Louis Lynn Schroeder Sharon Ansley Bill Long Sydney Arnud Geranna Stevens to perform with a 60 member Southwestern Oregon high school band. Rehearsals begin Saturday for a May 8 concert in Coos Bay during the band festival. Other cities in the group include Port Orford Bandon Langlois Coos Bay North Bend Coquille Reedsport.
Ervin Royer, a leading figure in The Old Fashioned Girl, contracts mumps yet rehearsal continues. The school play is scheduled for April 23 at 8 p.m. in the high school gym with chorus and cast members still set to perform.
Gordon MacKerrow proprietor of the Shell Service station has purchased the Dale Ohlson equipment to manage the Shell Oil distribution station serving Coquille Myrtle Point and Powers. MacKerrow will run both the service station at 8th and Spruce and the distribution plant on Reedsford road with Harry Bascom assisting.
Myrtle Grange hosts a community smorgasbord at the local Grange hall this Saturday from 5 to 6 pm to raise funds for a proposed new hall. Admission is 1.50 for adults and 0.75 for children under 12. Co chairs Mrs. Lewis Ellis and Mrs. Martin Schmidt organize the event featuring fish dishes.

The date shows a total of 3 641 03 against a goal of 8 264 00 and notes no report from other outlying areas.
Fred Gross and Ed Roberts of the Myrtle Point Chamber attended an Oregon Development Commission meeting at the Tioga Hotel midweek. The commission, created by the previous legislative session and appointed by the governor, discussed Camas Valley through Myrtle Point and Coquille development plans.
Last Friday more than two thirds of Myrtle Point elementary students were immunized in a program by the local PTA with the Coos County Health Department and Medical Association. Dr Harry Hook led 420 injections including boosters for diphtheria whooping cough tetanus and smallpox and initial doses for 143 pupils.
The Myrtle Point Women’s Club will host the 29th Pioneer Day at the Presbyterian church next Wednesday April 14 beginning 1:00 PM with visiting followed by a 1:30 program. Pioneers of southern Coos county are invited and transportation is provided for those in need.
Miss Rae McKinley of Bridge is Coos County winner of the Safeway Livestock Breeding award a $25 4 H summer school scholarship presented by Floyd Ford Coos Bay Safeway store manager The 4 H project aims to promote breeding work and herd improvement McKinley has five years in beef projects and in 1953 won the state fair breed championship with a registered Shorthorn heifer
Myrtle Point's Community Band offers a free concert Monday at the new junior auditorium. Manager Spenny Ross says the program begins at 8 o'clock and Arnold Melby conducts. The event aims to attract a large crowd for an evening of band music.
An official notice from the Secretary of State announces an auto license examiner visit in Myrtle Point on April 14, 1064 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be held at the city offices to conduct license examinations.
William A. Gage 68 known as Billy died at Mast Hospital Friday April 2 from a long heart attack. He moved to Myrtle Point in 1941 and worked in logging and with Harmony Mills with Andy Weber. He helped run Acme and Reliance mills with Ernest Bryant and Sanira Wald. He leaves four daughters Mrs G E Huston Tex Mrs Peter Gon Br Cree and Mrs D Co of Mexico. Funeral services were Wednesday at Scire with burial at Vernon Washington.
