More than eight hundred junior and senior high students from Myrtle Point and neighboring districts will compete in the Southwest Oregon District Music Festival at Coquille Friday and Saturday. Entries are judged across five divisions, with I ratings advancing to the state festival in Klamath Falls. Events begin Friday afternoon with solo and ensemble contests and continue Saturday with glee clubs choruses and bands at the high school. admission is free.
Douglas Harris, a freshman in agriculture at Myrtle Point Union High School, received a Jersey Heifer from the local Rotary club. The heifer, chosen from the Kelly herd at Gravel Ford, honors an outstanding FFA boy with a dairy project. The Myrtle Point FFA chapter has long benefited from Rotary support helping students pursue farming careers.
In the Spring Handicap Tourney at Coquille Valley Country Club Andy Richardson defeated Chet Noyes 3 up with two to go and Chet Murray beat John Louderback 2 up in the championship flight. In consolation Night Erv Dettman beat Carl Hooker 4 and 3 and Spike Leslie defeated Lou Holiman by the same margin. Next Sunday Chet Murray faces Mighty Mite Andy Richardson to decide the spring handicap champion. Dettman and Leslie meet in Consolation Flight.
Mayor Harold Rosas received a check for about 37 dollars from the Community Chest for the City Park development at The Orchard. He presented the funds to Lions club president James W. Gamwell.

School board of Scheol District 41 C Myrtle Point Elementary met with planning counsel at the junior high Monday evening to discuss value for money in a proposed building project. Mr Keeney outlined methods and will submit further material for review at a later date.
Brookdale Dairy proprietor Mr J A Kilgore announces the installation of an Econ-e-Beal capping machine that handles quart pint and half pint bottles at 28 per minute. It is the third such machine in Oregon, joining plants at Portland and Salem. The dairy serves Coos county with routes via Myrtle Point Powers Norway and Broadbent milking 200 cows. Output reaches 300 gallons daily. The Econ-o-Seal cost 2000 dollars and the plant is switching from round to square bottles to save space and boost capacity.
