The Myrtle Point School Board will focus on long term district plans at the April 26 session. Superintendent Gerad Bennett said the group aims to gather community input before acting, keeping a hold on major decisions until a plan is set.
Keith Lucas, a Powers resident and owner of a machine shop, pursues revived gold mining near Stamp Creek. He operates the JawRoBall mill and has mined roughly three quarters to one ounce of gold per ton from his four claims, aiming to expand if results hold.

A 75 name petition opposing a Bridge Rural Fire District was filed at the Coos County meeting after the original February petition. If accepted, a May primary vote could decide the district’s validity and potential election. Opponents cite tax increases and limited personal benefit while supporters argue for better protection and district accountability.
Commissioner Woody Robison rejected coos county officials Munroe and Lemery who called the jail unsanitary after a Tuesday inspection. He said repairs costing 2000 to 2500 dollars will be completed within 30 days, and he noted the Beaver Hill project low bid of 109799 by Bracelin and Yeager, with an award due at Thursday’s meeting.
Flora M. Laird Memorial Library curator Ruthellen Gassman highlights National Library Week April 4 10 as she catalogs rare books in Myrtle Point collection. The find includes The Louisiana Purchase 1898 by Binger Herman a former land officer with maps and ties to local pioneers. The collection grows with 1861 Orson Pratt works and 1908 Oregon Pioneers among others. puppet show set for April 10.
