A new feature at the 1915 Coos and Curry County Fair drew dairy men and producers to the dairy stock and dairy products display. In the 90 day butterfat test competition the Babe Holstein owned by Frank Rogers won first with 223.9 pounds, Bagley the grade Holstein owned by L Lundy & Son second with 215 pounds, White Tail the grade Jersey owned by Chas Butler & Sons third with 194 pounds, and Snowball the grade Ayrshire owned by B Bartlett & Son fourth.

Senator Chamberlain visits Coos and Curry County Fair

Senator Geo E Chamberlain toured Coos and Curry counties visiting constituents before returning to Congress. He spoke on livestock breeding and supported a bill to lower farm loan interest. He traveled with F L Tienenor and met Hugh McLain in Coquille en route to Port Orford. He emphasized Congress acting to reflect public wishes on the C C Land Grant conference.

Sugarloaf Lumber Co. Loses 200 000 Feet of Logs

Fire in the Sugarloaf Lumber Co. logging woods burned about 200000 feet of saw logs stored on a hillside near the mill. The pile originally held 530000 feet with 300000 sawed this summer. Estimated damage to logs is $1000. Loss falls on J. S. Whitaker who recently took over the Roberts interest.

Orient UO Wants First Tonnage Shortage Hits Lumber Trade

E Schulz director at the China Importsport Lumber Company arrived from Shanghai and plans to stay in the United States through winter. He notes steady Orient demand for lumber but says tonnage to fill orders is unobtainable. Before the war, a large Portland firm shipped 50 to 60 million feet yearly to North China.

Lambert Defeats Curry County Champion In Wrestling Show

The Curry County Fair drew crowds for four weight handicap wrestling matches at the Oaks Pavilion. Lambert of Powers defeated Lutsey of Curry in a thrilling main event after competitive bouts featuring Rentrop Costello and Wilson, with Lambert winning the decisive final fall.

Effective September 1 1915 the insured parcel post value limit rises from fifty to one hundred dollars. Rates also drop with three cent for values to five dollars five cent to twenty five dollars ten cent to fifty dollars and twenty five cent to one hundred dollars.

Better Babies Contest at County Fair Draws Local Winners

The first Better Babies Contest at the County Fair in Myrtle Point last week drew crowds as entries were examined. Top honors went to Geo Slagle and Vera Dean Harvey with high scores, with several divisions listing leading boys and girls and notes of ties. The Fair Association will mail medals and score cards while inviting mothers to bring scorecards to local doctors to resolve ties.
