Southern Oregon State Normal School Opens New Year

The Southern Oregon State Normal School begins work September 16 with new facilities including a large working hall a fully equipped laboratory a new gymnasium under construction and a nearly completed handsome school building. The grounds are pleasant and conditions healthy, with strengthened practical studies and an expanded faculty to support high order education. President BF Malbey invites patronage from the region.

Old Settler Frank C Kinnicutt Dies By Suicide

Frank C Kinnicutt a Coos County resident and Sitkum teacher since the Civil War era died by shooting himself Monday while momentarily insane. An inquest found death by his own action the 61 year old veteran left a wife two married daughters and a son among survivors. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Myrtle Point Cemetery. Fred Camphor injured in a wagon accident near Sugar Seal recovered. Obituary items note Helen M Rooke died October 1 1903 and Mabel Endicott completed a Curry County shelling term returning home. An ad for Guarnate Forest Reserve timber and a Phoenix flour pitch appear alongside a Wit and Wisdom quote about John Wesley and a Chamberlain cough remedy endorsement.
