Wreck Probe to Review Fatal Train Crash

Witnesses described a fatal wreck as Brakerman and Anderson recall the engineer applying air brakes before impact. Rol Anderson warned colleagues with Good bye, Jim, and McDowell urged everyone to stay in seats as the train failed. The State Labor Commission will investigate in days.

Seven Men Die In Coos County Logging Tragedy

A logging engine and three log cars derailed through a trestle on the Bear Creek railroad near Bill's creek. Seven men are known dead, including engineers and loggers, with several others critically injured. Rescue crews and camp workers battled hazards as details emerged about the collapsed trestle and missing stranger reportedly seeking work.

Obituary for Guy L Chetman Rose

Guy Leroy Chetman Rose son of Judge J E Rose was born October 22 1876 in Douglas county Oregon and died November 26 1912 in Bandon Oregon at age 36. He moved to Myrtle Point in 1879 and lived in this city except 1911 in Alaska with Guerin survey party. He leaves six children including Lou Rose Innis Rose Cleo Denton and Sarah Murray with parents J E Rose and a mother in Needles California. Funeral services were held at the Brethren church with ministers and the Eastern Star Ladies in attendance.

Pioneer Richard Haughton dies in Coos County at 82

Richard Haughton born February 11 1830 in Church Stretton England died November 21 1912 at his Norway Oregon home after lip cancer and old age. He immigrated to the United States in youth married Sarah Amy Foxen in Birmingham in 1874 and settled in Norway since then. He leaves wife four children and seven grandchildren. Funeral was held at the Norway cemetery with Rev Thos Barklow and A J Sherwood reading life history.

Tug L Roscoe departed for Yaquina Bay to tow a barge carrying a steam shovel and other railroad equipment for the Southern Pacific Eugene Coos Bay line near Gardiner.

Body of U. M. Parker Recovered After River Drowning

The body of U. M. Parker, who with his son drowned on the Illinois River on the 8th of last May, was found near the Dave Libby place eight miles away by Ira E. Moore on November 25, 1912. He was nude except shoes, collar, and shirt fragments. shoes repaired by John Fry helped confirm identity. The coroner Robt. Walker oversaw the autopsy of the well-preserved body and arranged for burial on a hillside.
