Workman Suffers Severe Injury Amputation At Reed's Ford

Chas Fredericks, a laborer on the Smith Powers logging road, sustained a painful injury while moving a steam shovel at Reed's ford last Saturday when a wheelrail dropped on his toe. The toe was crushed and amputated. He is under care at White Cross Hospital and may be discharged in a few days.

C. A. Smith Co Plans Major Mill Expansion At Coos Bay

C. A. Smith Co begins remodeling the Eastside mill at Bay City aiming to boost daily cut to 600 000 700 900 feet and lift output to 150 000 200 000 feet in 10 hours. New machinery includes carriage and band saw. Adelaide Smith will join later with cargo aimed at Coos Bay. Arno Mereen and Capt Olson oversee gear and power upgrades.

The 1911 Oregon metal output valued at 669,016 with gold at 633,407 and silver at 23,967. Copper ore shipped to smelters totaled 4,205 tons yielding 93,136 pounds of copper worth 11,642 with an average recovery of 22.2 pounds per ton. Lead and zinc produced no output in either year.
