First annual Coos County corn show moves to Hermann building

Myrtle Point hosts corn day with glass showcases and central tables for a big farmers basket dinner. Prof Larsen of OCAC will judge exhibits. 25 to 30 contestants already entered. County Agriculturist J L Smith urges early in place displays, with entries accepted in the forenoon. Social events include a welcome reception for Mrs. Lee Ray after a steamer scare.

Macgenn Crew Take Breakwater to Frisco

Captain J. T. Macgenn with twenty five seamen travels Tuesday from Roseburg Myrtle Point toward Marshfield to sail the Breakwater to San Francisco for repairs. The Santa Clara crew refused berths on the Breakwater, preferring other terms and ships. The Drydock repairs in San Francisco are expected to take about twenty days as water ownership remains with Southern Pacific.

Spoons and subscriptions prompt rush in Oregon week

About twenty five of the Oregon Souvenir Spoons are needed to honor subscribers this week with only about a hundred spoons available. The note warns that tomorrow may be too late.

Barrows May Make Race For County Attorney

Attorney C. R. Barrows, touring the county, spoke at the M E Church to seventeen residents. A former legislator, he reviewed the recent session and commented on the O C Land Grant Case. He thanked supporters for his last election and hinted at a possible bid for Prosecuting Attorney in upcoming primaries.

Farmers Union Dinners Regular Monthly Affairs

The Myrtle Point Farmers Educational and Co op erative Union of America holds its regular meeting the first Saturday of each month at Lundy Hall. These all day sessions function as large farmers dinners where members exchange farm practices and discuss soil and crop problems, learning from nearby neighbors in a true community agricultural school.

Tomorrow May Be Too Late Oregon Spoon Giveaway

The Enterprise offers about one hundred Oregon Souvenir Spoons free to subscribers who pay between now and December 16, 1915. One spoon per dollar and a half on subscription, with extra spoons for longer terms. New subscribers brought in by current subscribers also earn spoons for both parties. Only around a hundred spoons available.

Pleasant Surprise Party Welcomes Mrs. W. Lee Ray Home

Mrs. W. Lee Ray returned from a three month trip through six states visiting twenty seven towns and relatives. Friends gathered at her Myrtle Point home to hear her memories and recounts of church and school landmarks she passed, and she noted Myrtle Point as the best among her stops.

Extension granted to Pacific Tel and Tel egraph company ruling

The Public Service Commission extended the company by 80 days to stop cash deposits for flat service and cut deposits for metered service. No cash deposits during the extension and deposits refunded during the period.

Golden Wedding Celebrated by Rev and Mrs Myers in Port Orford

A large gathering at the home of Mr and Mrs N H Larson marked the Golden Wedding anniversary of Rev and Mrs W H Myers. The event featured a mock marriage ceremony, musical numbers by Prof W Buffum and Miss Ota Williams, and a burlesque wedding act that drew hearty laughs.

Port Orford Wedding Fete for Zumwalt and Myers

The Port Orford community celebrated the marriage of J. H. Zumwalt and Mrs. Myers with a late evening ceremony. W. T. White, the magistrate, presided as gifts of fifty dollars in gold were presented by Mr. Loney and the Ladies’ Aid provided the wedding cake. A large turnout of friends attended and toasted the couple, with songs and refreshments marking the reception.

Four Men in Narrow Coos Bay Rescue Flight

Four men drifted in a gasolene launch named the Traveler near the Coos Bay bar as a Coast Guard boat reached them. T S O Connor and crew Lloyd O Connor George Brown and J A Phelan were from the wrecked Santa Clara incident. A drum oil line fouled the rudder, George Brown went overboard to cut it, and Calmer Water reached in time as Captain Britt's crew responded to the danger.

Railroads Lose Money in Last Fiscal Year

Salem Ore Nov 3 Both the Spokane Portland Seattle Railway and the Oregon Trunk Railway reported losses for the year ended June 30 with deficits of 2 531 716 33 and 579 351 80 respectively. Spokane Portland Seattle had operating revenues of 4 416 688 90 and expenses of 2 538 128 41 leaving a gross income of 1 556 349 83 after interest payments the deficit stood. Oregon Trunk showed revenues 167 390 69 expenses 152 073 26 and also incurred a substantial deficiency after interest and other costs.
