Hughes Wins Out as New York Governor in Close Race

Election returns show Hughes, Republican, defeating Hearst in New York by about 40 000 to 50 000 votes with a Bronx plurality over the city. Higgins held the governorship two years ago. Other states trend similarly with Republicans prevailing in Massachusetts and Illinois while Minnesota grants a large Democratic margin.
