The first block of Oregon and California grant lands will be opened to settlement early next spring. Only agricultural lands will be offered first, with timber lands classified separately and opened later in larger units for cutting. Block divisions and maps with cruiser reports will guide entry, warns against fraudulent locators, and outlines tax and legal steps with railroads and government costs approximated at two million dollars.

The Myrtle Point Red Cross reports strong progress led by chairwoman Mrs. W. T. Dement. Nineteen pajama suits are nearly finished with more ordered for shipment to Marshfield to be sent to soldiers at the front. Auxiliary officers Mrs. W. L. Pemberton and Mrs. F. G. Drake were elected Friday. Meetings are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and all members are urged to attend.
