South Fork ranchman killed by falling tree
Roby Floyd Shull, 31, a ranchman from near Myrtle Point, died after a tree struck him while he and two men felled timber on the South Fork farm. The accident occurred Friday afternoon as a third tree shifted and struck his thigh and hip, tearing it from the spine. He was survived by his wife Mary Anderson, two sons, his parents, three sisters and four brothers. Funeral services were held Monday at Norway Cemetery.

Race Program for 1917 Coos and Curry County Fair
The Coos and Curry County Fair Association announces a four day Myrtle Point exhibition from September 12 to 15 1917 with a detailed race program. Events include trotting and running races with purses up to 300 dollars and a derby for three year olds, plus relays and novelty races.
Decoration Day Plans for 1917 Observance
Decoration Day in 1917 will honor veterans and unknown dead as the nation fights a great war. Myrtle Point Cemetery grave decorations at 10:00 a.m. with a 1:00 p.m. procession from the G A R Hall, rifle and honor guard drills at 1:30, school participation at Dixon Grove, and an address by Hon. Binger Hermann. If rain, exercises move to the Unique Theatre.

Remains of Mrs Carpenter Found After Drowning
Remains of Mrs Alice Carpenter were found in a stream near the Sam Miller place about half a mile below the May Ith drowning site. Mr Chauncy Carpenter and two sisters were aboard the Idusch Superior when it struck submerged piling and sank. Mrs Myers alerted authorities after discovering the body on Tuesday afternoon. Funeral arrangements were not learned but burial is planned in Bandon.

Indian man James Burns charged with murder of son
Marshfield May 19 The Coos Bay Times reports James Burns an Empire area full blood Indian was arrested this afternoon by Coroner Wilson and charged with murdering his fourteen year old son Clay Burns whose body was found in the woods near Empire yesterday A coroner's jury at Empire found Clay Burns died by gunshot wounds inflicted by James Burns and the jury did not examine witnesses. Burns was jailed in North Bend awaiting Sheriff Gage to take him to Coquille.
