Local Youth Gene Shields Dies by Suicide at Bancroft
Word from Bancroft reports Gene Shields son of Mr and Mrs J C Shields homesteaders of Myrtle Creek district shot himself in a stable on the homestead. He left no note and no motive is known. Burial was held Tuesday with Rev D Price conducting services.

County Farmers Union Sets Meeting for May 19

Three Die After Coquille River Launch Sinks
A launch named Superior capsized after hitting a submerged piling below the North Fork and main Coquille river forks near Myrtle Point. Mrs Chauncey Carpenter and two daughters perished. Chauncey Carpenter and infant were rescued or missed. Searchers from Myrtle Point and valley volunteers continued the body recovery through the week. The elder girl was found first and the younger girl soon after, with diver W L Mast aiding the recovery. Mrs Carpenter was formerly Miss Alice Hill of Gold Beach.

Obituary of Henry W Holverstott of Fairview Oregon
Henry William Holverstott born June 18 1834 in Marion county Ohio died May 4 1917 in Fairview Oregon aged 82 years 10 months 16 days. He moved from California to Willamette Valley then Coos county and raised a large family with Terressa Hawley whom he married November 28 1870. Burial was at Fairview cemetery after a Masonic service and sermon by Elder Thos Barklow Myrtle Point.
