Alaska Boundary Survey Party Heads Northward
A party led by Myrtle Pointers and including W C Guerin E C Guerin Lester Sumerlin A B Bigelow and D N McNair departed Saturday for Roseburg then Seattle en route to Alaska for a summer of boundary surveying north of the Porcupine River toward the Arctic Ocean. Sixty five men forty Americans twenty five Canadians will survey a two mile wide topographic strip along the 141st parallel set monuments every four miles and cut timber from a twenty foot wide strip. They will sail on the Jefferson around June 6 and mail from Fort Yukon as a temporary post office with monthly updates.

Shingle Mill Fire Destroys Mill and Stock
A shingle and planing mill burned last Thursday night with doors, windows, 8 to 10 cords of shingle bolts and 80 000 shingles lost. Mrs. M T Wright alerted firefighters as flames ate through the roof nearly a mile from the town’s center. Firefighters saved several hundred cords of cedar bolts and protected a nearby barn, with minimal wind aiding containment and avoiding broader damage.
