Locust Grove School Basket Social Draws Wide Attendance
The Locust Grove School house in Warner District held a basket social last Saturday night March 20 drawing many from nearby and distant neighborhoods. A long program of songs duets dialogues and recitations entertained all and proceeds of 43.70 will fund urgent school improvements. Locust Grove School Lena M. Schneider and Pupils thank attendees and basket bringers for a successful event.

Russell couple released on bonds in pending case
The Rus sell case saw Mr. Russell freed on $3000 bond after a Saturday release while Mrs. Russell’s bond rose to $5000 and she was released Monday. Preliminary hearing was postponed again last Thursday with grand jury session pending. Bonds were signed by local and Coquille signatories. The family returned to the ranch as Allen Dodge resumed charge in town. State Fair Board plans to erect a rest cottage at Salem fair grounds.

Tester Dryden of the Myrtle Point Co operative Testing Association reports five members have placed registered sires at the heads of their herds this season. Buyers include F. L. Lundy & Son Holstein from W. K. Newell Ford Gaston and C. H. Butler from Frank Laughery Monmouth whose bull’s dam produced 626 pounds of butterfat in a year. D. R. Lewis near Lee acquired his sire from Hewitt Polk County the dam of this bull exceeded 600 pounds of butterfat. W. M. Weekly Gravel Ford bought his animal from Frank Vanluven near Bandon.

Sudden Death of Capt Harris at Marshfield Home
Capt W C Harris died suddenly yesterday morning while seated in his automobile in front of his residence at South Marshfield. Aged 66, he had heart trouble but appeared in good health. he leaves his wife, one son Clarence, and four daughters Ruth Wilda Harris and Mrs Rose Matson and Mrs Clyde Barker. He was born in Grant County Wisconsin and journeyed to California in 1853. He lived in Nevada and Humboldt counties before moving to Coos Bay in 1897, later buying a Sumner ranch, dairy farming, and serving as postmaster. He helped develop the area as a member of the Fort Commission of Coos Bay. The funeral was held Wednesday at 2:30 pm at Wilson's parlors, with interment at Sunset Cemetery.

Motorcyclist Struck by Train at Marshfield
Victor Bach 18 of Ferndale was struck by a passenger train at the Smith Mill crossing in Marshfield while crossing the tracks on a 1914 Indian motorcycle. The bike buckled, Bach carried 30 feet on the pilot, then tossed to the rocks. He suffered a broken leg and a brain concussion but doctors say he will live. Eyewitnesses August Carlson and Oscar Wilson described the scene. engineer Charles Gilbert blew the whistle before the crossing.

The Charm Telegraph affair on the lower river ended yesterday at Coquille. Steamboat Inspector Edwards and Fuller from Portland concluded the inquiry. Captain Harve Dunham of the Telegraph had his license suspended for 60 days for permitting a deck hand to land. Captain W. T. McCloskey has been operating the Telegraph since the earlier incident.
