Death of John Hayes Sr. One of Coos county's early settlers
John Hayes Sr a long time Coos county resident died on the 10th of this month at age 80 years 2 months and 28 days Born March 18 1825 in Bumcombe county North Carolina He married Susan Wagner on November 26 1854 The couple had fifteen children eight girls and seven boys with twenty eight grandchildren Surviving are four daughters and seven sons He lived in Tennessee 1865 to 1872 then moved to Coos County Oregon settling at Rowland Prairie before moving to the North Carolina settlement He joined the German Baptist church July 22 1900 Funeral services were held Sunday June 18 at the Brethren Church Myrtle Point burial at Norway cemetery The community extends sympathy to the family

For parties of ten or more on one ticket, one fare for the round trip. For organized groups of one hundred or more, individual tickets at one fare for the round trip. Ten day stopovers allowed at Portland on one way tickets reading through that point. Tickets must be deposited with Joint Agent at Portland, extension fee fifty cents.
