Chief Engineer F A Haines arrives in Myrtle Point with twenty men and surveying wagons to begin exploratory routes toward Coos Bay from Camas Mountain. More crews may join. preliminary costs are about five cents a foot with over ten thousand dollars raised.
Rain dampened some Decoration Day events yet veterans and townspeople still honored fallen soldiers. A morning cemetery ceremony featured floral tributes and brief rituals, while the afternoon program at Benson opera house included chorus, a flag drill, recitations, and an address by Rev. R. H. Pierson praising Lincoln and both Union and Confederate soldiers.
B H Haskins imported two fine draft mares from Douglas county each with a colt by his horse all indicating good potential as draft animals. Mrs McCulloch and daughter Lydia of North Bend passed through town en route to Seattle to settle Gus McCulloch had already left by boat. J L Masson the veterinary surgeon was thrown from a horse and injured lightly but recovered quickly. W W Williams the builder left for East Fork to start three large modern houses this summer for G G Swan M J Krantz and Letherman who bought the D C Krantz place. The local people in that area are rising in prominence.
The Bunch brothers Hershel and Lowell remain ill with la grippe. Frank Harnish travels to Salem to buy dairy cows. Mrs I A Hansen and Mrs Robert Clinton attend United Brethren conference in Philomath. Mrs I M Weekly visits Myrtle Point relatives. A young people's society hosts a tent near the creamery for a basket social to benefit the church on Saturday the 5th with oyster soup coffee and cake. Everyone invited. FARMER'S DAUGHTER.
