Class Play At The Postern Gate At Unique Theatre

The high school staged the farce At the Postern Gate with five students delivering an easy performance. The program included pictures, songs by the girls quartet, solos, a Raven reading, and an orchestra number. Commencement exercises followed with orchestra, chorus, diplomas, and an address by Dr. John Straub.

Norway Wins at Powers in Sunday Baseball Game

Norway defeated the Powers team 6 to 2 at the new Powers field on Sunday afternoon. Death of James J. Hill Empire Builder and Railroad King

James J. Hill known as the railroad king and empire builder died at his Summitt Avenue home at 9:00 this morning after a bowel infection. He was 78. Doctors Herman M. Biggs and Stanley Seager, with Hill family, were at his bedside. Wealth estimates range from 100 to 500 million dollars, with a likely figure between 200 and 250 million. An accounting of securities totaling over 100 million was shown to bankers at the outbreak of the war.

Memorial and Decoration Day Observance at Myrtle Point

Myrtle Point observed Decoration Day with graveside ceremonies by the G. A. R. in the morning and an afternoon program at the Unique Theatre led by W. H. Bunch of McKinley. S. S. Darnell read Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, and local students performed songs and recitations. Bunch urged stronger national military preparedness citing 1812 as an example and noting personal family losses in Gettysburg.

Larger postal savings accepted under new act

Washington May 29 Larger postal savings deposits will be accepted now up to 1000 dollars per depositor and there is no monthly limit. The change follows a Postal Savings Act amendment approved by President Wilson.
