The twelve young graduates of Myrtle Point School District No. 41 Coos County are awarded diplomas by the School Board. The Class motto Ready to anchor now marks their entry to universities and colleges to continue studies for life’s work.

The high school staged the farce At the Postern Gate with five students delivering an easy performance. The program included pictures, songs by the girls quartet, solos, a Raven reading, and an orchestra number. Commencement exercises followed with orchestra, chorus, diplomas, and an address by Dr. John Straub.

James J. Hill known as the railroad king and empire builder died at his Summitt Avenue home at 9:00 this morning after a bowel infection. He was 78. Doctors Herman M. Biggs and Stanley Seager, with Hill family, were at his bedside. Wealth estimates range from 100 to 500 million dollars, with a likely figure between 200 and 250 million. An accounting of securities totaling over 100 million was shown to bankers at the outbreak of the war.

Bunch urged stronger national military preparedness citing 1812 as an example and noting personal family losses in Gettysburg.
The Memorial Sermon honoring the G A R and W R C was delivered at Saints Church by A C Barmore in Myrtle Point. The service started eleven o'clock Sunday morning for local citizens and veterans.
