Postal official says bids for Roseburg to Myrtle Point too high

A letter from Fourth Assistant Postmaster General Jas. I. Blakeslee to Rep. W. C. Hawley explains that the department paid about 15000 dollars annually for the Roseburg Marshfield and Roseburg Myrtle Point star routes. Officials propose alternatives and note bids due by the 28th.

Brethren Hold Series of Meetings in Myrtle Point

Brethren Church Love Feast Series Nearing Myrtle Point

The Coquille river towns total 1884 in a five town census while Coos Bay towns muster 1687. The river towns outpace the Bay towns in population registered voters and assessed valuation and in school population.

Death by Own Action Ends Life of Leroy Casey on North Fork

Leroy Casey of Lee, employed by C O King and Son on the Winsor and Falkenstein ranch near Fox Bridge, died by self inflicted pistol shot between eight and nine o clock Friday evening. Despondency over a believed romance prompted the act. Casey left no note. His body was found near the King home and taken to Coquille for an inquest, burial arranged there per his father in Washington. Casey, a strong wrestler from Walla Walla, had lived on the North Fork about two years and once wrestled Lutze of Curry County at Bandon.

Up-Valley Defeats Coquille In Local Baseball Clash

Sunday afternoon turnout was small as Norway beat Coquille 9 to 8 in a league game. Pitcher Clinton fanned ten and Taper struck out seven as Coquille and Norway traded blows. Lineups featured Myrtle Point players for Coquille while Norway started Bachus at third and Clinton on the mound.

Miss Gertie Arrington Weds Mr Lawson Leneve in Bandon

Miss Gertie Arrington daughter of Mr and Mrs W L Arrington of Coquille and Mr Lawson Leneve son of Mr and Mrs J W Leneve of Coquille were married at noon on Wednesday July 29 at the home of Rev Horsfall in Bandon. The couple and guests traveled by automobile and a wedding dinner followed at the Baxter Hotel in Coquille. They plan a mountain camping trip before settling at home in Coquille.

Feather Tickler Blamed in Death at Elks Reunion

Norman Young 40 a Southern Pacific conductor from Roseburg Oregon died after a feather tickler was thrust in his face during an Elks reunion party in Denver. A small scratch morphed into blood poisoning before his death last night. Young was a member of the Elks.

Umpqua Valley citrus and fruit shipments rise in history

Umpqua Valley plans a record year with eight car loads of peaches next week and about 40 car loads of apples from early August. Bartlett pears and numerous other fruits will ship by the car and train, with the Dillard district sending tomatoes cantaloupes and watermelons. The Fruit Union aims for at least a hundred carloads this season aided by the Western Oregon Fruit Association.

A reader recall notes the Enterprise reported a pension request to establish a postoffice in the upper Catching Creek district. No official notice received yet but Port land Journal states a Triangle Coos County post office will be established with Eleanor Lehnherr as postmistress once she qualifies.

Pioneer Job Angel Makes Long Rural Outing

Job Angel, who arrived from Portland last week as noted in the Enterprise, walked to Eckley country and returned Sunday then left again for home Monday. He reached the old Avery place before deciding to ride back to town. He calls it a dandy outing and is remembered as an early Coquille Valley pioneer who once owned a valuable ranch on the lower river.

State Officers Visit Myrtle Point Odd Fellows and Rebekahs

A group of Grand Lodge officers from Oregon visited Myrtle Point Lodges last Saturday. Includes Grand Master Wm. Galloway and Mrs. Galloway, Mrs. Kate Lando, Judge John F. Hall, and others. They spoke on the Oregon Orphan's Home needs and lodge progress, urged funds for a new building, and enjoyed a lengthy social meal afterward.
