Coquille July 19 1919 C R Barrow publishes an opinion in response to Iron Governor Withycombe on the Oregon California land grant dispute. Brakes Fail On Steep Coos Bay Grade Crash Narrow Escape
On a long grade to the Seven Devils in Coos Bay the brakes failed while a car driven by L E Brown struggled to stop. Alva and Mrs. Doll jumped out as the vehicle rolled back and tipped on its side after slipping brakes. No injuries occurred and the party continued after the machine was righted. Mr Brown and Mrs Brown are well known in the area.

Fire at Depot Scratches Roof After Train Sparks
The first fire of the season occurred last Saturday forenoon on the roof of the local depot. Sparks from passing trains had scorched the depot in summers past. The blaze opened a hole in the shingles before being extinguished. Mr. Collier, the company carpenter, re shingles the burned area earlier this week.

City Council Targets Auto Noise With New Ordinance

Big Timber Deal Nears Closing in Oregon Sale
A Portland Evening Telegram report states a large timber tract of about 12 000 acres in Lincoln County near Coos Bay is to transfer title this week. The sale, led by E J Young of Madison Wisconsin, involves creditors trustees of C A Smith Lumber Co with headquarters in Minneapolis. Final payment is expected soon as buyers and sellers close the deal.

Lambert Defeats Martin In Wrestling Match At Unique Theatre
George Lambert of Powers defeated Frank Martin known as the wrestling door black in two falls. Lambert won the first fall in 17 minutes 45 seconds by half Nelson and body scissors and the second in 2 minutes 50 seconds with a body lock. A rematch between Jim Wilson and Lambert was announced but postponed until after Lambert wrestles Lutsey at the 1915 County Fair.
