Terse editorial notes a possible March special election for Congress with many candidates named. It criticizes Portland politics, calls for unity among state lawmakers, and emphasizes public improvements while condemning self serving local papers and graft claims.
Severe flood damage reported along the Coquille River from extreme high water over the weekend. The river rose rapidly to its highest level since 1890, washing out tracks and road beds, lifting the trestle, washing away bridges, and damaging farms fences and driftwood in fields. Lyons mill and local piers suffered, while the East Fork mill was unsettled and low lands flooded with driftwood.
Myrtle Point Tent members mourn the death of Sir Knight Black a respected member and ally. The charter will be draped in mourning for thirty days a copy of the resolutions will be sent to his family and spread in the minutes and published in the Myrtle Point Est Terraise.
