Big Gold Strike Report From Lobster Creek

J R Smith and son Owen W Smith arrive in Bandon from Lobster Creek recounting a vast placer gold find. They claim eleven pounds of gold valued around 250 a pound totaling 2500 to 3000 with a nine foot December snow hindering work. They plan to return in six weeks to expand mining on 440 acres on one creek and 120 on another near the Curry line.

Horticulturist Brown Visits Myrtle Point Fruit Growers

County Agriculturist J L Smith with Prof W S Brown of the Extension Department of the QO.xC traveled from Coquille to Myrtle Point last Thursday noon and gave a pruning demonstration at Max Dement’s place. About 35 fruit growers attended. Friday a larger meeting was held at Bridge, followed by a visit to the McMullen Dix fruit ranch on the Middle Fork.
