Captain A M Simpson Dies at 90 Pioneer Lumberman

Captain A M Simpson aged 90 died in a San Francisco hospital after a heavy cold. He was a pioneer lumberman and shipper from Coos Bay, founder of Knappton North Bend and South Bend. His son L J Simpson, mayor of North Bend, postponed a Washington trip to help with harbor improvements. Edith married M Pike of San Francisco. Capt Edgar M and L J manage his great industry.

The stockholders of the Bank of Myrtle Point met in the city last Tuesday for their annual meeting. Twenty nine of the thirty three stockholders attended.

Myrtle Point Volunteer Fire Department Elects 1915 Officers

At their meeting last Monday evening the Myrtle Point Volunteer Fire Department elected Geo. Kribs as Chief and G. B. Harrison as Assistant Chief. J. R. Benson is President Harold Adams is Secretary and L. T. Dement is Treasurer. The annual firemen’s ball is set for February 20 with a committee organizing arrangements.

Convictions Reported From Coquille Court

In Coquille Circuit Court on January 12 James O'Brien was convicted of robbing the Bohemian saloon in Marshfield. Ralph Edmunds received two to 20 years for forgery and was paroled. Robert Thom fined 100 dollars for selling liquor to a minor. his employer McAdamy paid the fine. William Atterbury fined 100 dollars for cruelty to animals with suspension on payment of 50 and costs within five days. Curly Billings sentenced two to 20 years with possible suspension if he marries the victims within ten days.

Fast basketball games last week at Oaks Pavilion

The largest crowd of the season watched Cotqaille and Myrtle Point High meet in the county high school schedule opener at the Oaks Pavilion. Myrtle Point led early but the final tally favored Coquille with Elton Spires starring for Myrtle Point and Norton, Hall, and Johnson contributing for Coquille.

Marshfield quintette defeats Norway in close game

In Norway on Saturday the Marshfield five edged the home team 26 to 19. Niles, Otis, Fisher, and Morrow led Marshfield with multiple baskets while Clinton, Brown, Kern, and Rackleff topped Norway, as the visitors built a narrow victory in a spirited gym crowd.

Coos County has 5127 children aged 6 to 20, with 3566 or 69.9 percent attending school, per a 1910 census bulletin recently released. The report details age group distribution and attendance.
