Oregon farmers plan seed corn drive and mountain trail work

March first seed corn distribution to seven tons aims to help farmers plant two acres each and prove larger yields despite high grain prices. A foot and horseback trail to Larch Mountain will be built by local clubs. Oregon tourism and scenic descriptions are sought for Western states travel planners. Valley business group forms three new branches

Frank G. Horton E P Lewis and S J Lyons of Marshfield organized Coos County Business Men's Association branches in three valley towns. Nine members at Bandon ten at Coquille and twelve at Myrtle Point. Vice presidents were elected in each city with HQ at Marshfield under Secretary Caton. Dr L G Johnson C J Fuhrman and O A Trowbridge named vice presidents.

Bail Set At 3000 In Bunker Hill Fire Case

Bail was set at 3000 for the suspect in the Bunker Hill fire. Friends are working to raise the amount for release. The prisoner faces examination Friday at nine before Justice Pennock with the state represented by George Watkins. Witness Paul Zielke, associate of Skerrett, has been subpoenaed. Lilequist is not expected back from Roseburg.

Panama Pacific Fair Opens with Vast San Francisco Pageant

San Francisco on February 21 opened the Panama Pacific exposition with 450000 visitors. President Wilson triggered the Palace of Machinery at six am as the Pacific Fleet fired a 21 gun salute. A 250000 strong parade along Van Ness and Market led to dedication ceremonies with Lane, Johnson, Moore and Mayor Rolph speaking. Oregon’s massive log cabin building features locally produced lumber and four district booths, with 700 women cashiers and an 800 man police force.

Norton child seriously injured by falling firewood on Midge Fork

The five year old Billy Norton, son of Mr and Mrs W B Norton, was struck on the head by a block of firewood rolled down a hillside by his father on Tuesday afternoon near their home on the Midge Fork. He remained unconscious early today with slim chances of recovery as Dr Johnson and a nurse from Marshfield assisted. The family raised about 50 to 60 dollars to help care for him.

The district forester at Portland Oregon announces a timber sale on the National Forest in Eastern Oregon.
