Holden Judge E D G Holden Dies in Coquille

Judge Holden known as justice of the peace in Coquille for eleven years died after paralysis at his home on August 20. Born February 18 1834 he was an Odd Fellows member for over forty years and a devout Methodist. Survived by C H Holden brother Henry S Holden son and daughter in Michigan the funeral at Coquille was held at 2 PM with Odd Fellows and Rev E R Evans officiating.

Barker a jeweler from Marshfield has unearthed an eighteen inch graphite vein at the Walter Bennett place near Ford. He has drilled eighteen feet, through three veins, with the fourth sixteen inches thick sixteen feet below the surface. He will have ore tested to judge purity and viability for mining. If valuable, the deposit could boost Coos County natural resources.
