Oregon Exhibits Win Big At Panama Pacific Show

Oregon's mining exhibit at the Panama Pacific Exposition earned the grand gold medal for best collective display with six silver and four bronze medals. Despite a scarce $10,000 budget and late setup, a sub committee praised the display of quartz, coal, gold specimens, and maps. Mystery Show At Unique Theatre Friday Attracts Crowds

Unique Theatre presents a two hour program headlined by Houdeen the Mystery Man and Miss Cobra. The act features a submerged water escape in a milk can with padlocks and a levitation illusion where the lady rises from a table and vanishes. Governor to Aid State in Enforcing Forest Fire Laws

Salem Oregon July 31 It is probable Governor Withycombe will assist the State Forester in enforcing forest fire laws. Convictions for malicious fires have been hard to obtain. The Attorney General may be called to reinforce local prosecutors to pursue offenders. State and federal fire fighting costs run into many thousands yearly.

Wilson and Lambert to Wrestle at Unique Theatre Saturday

The postponed match between Geo Lambert of Powers and Jim Wilson of Portland is now set for next Saturday evening August 7 at Unique Theatre. Arthur Parry will precede the main bout by challenging Fuzzy Rose and Ad Huff in a one hour match. Wilson recently faced M Lautsey at Bandon, taking the second and third falls in two and one minutes after Lautsey won the first in sixteen minutes.

Myrtle Point Beats South Fork In Close Contest At Fair Grounds

Myrtle Point defeated South Fork 9 to 8 in a nine inning clash at the Fair Grounds Diamond last Sunday afternoon. About fifty fans saw Myrtle Point rally late for the win, followed by Myrtle Point 7 Bridge 6 in a seven inning affair. A possible Powers squad game with Myrtle Point is tentatively planned for next Sunday on the local grounds.

City Council Passes Theatre License Reform And Sewer Talks

In the absence of Mayor Dement, J. S. Whitaker presided. The council discussed water supply, alley cleanliness, and a proposed theatre and traveling show license reform. A hearing notice from the State Public Service Commission on Coquille Valley Telephone Co rates was read. An ordinance to regulate theatres passed second reading with Guerin Strong and Schroeder voting yes and Barklow no. The sewer plan and district boundaries were set for next week’s adjourned meeting.
