Coquille April 20 Prizes totaling 500 dollars will be offered at the Coos County School Industrial Fair in Myrtle Point next September for boys and girls ages 9 to 18. Winners earn a trip to the State Fair in Salem with all expenses paid, plus scholarships and cash prizes for girls. Contest aims to link rural schools with homes and teach practical skills in farming sewing cooking and crafts under Oregon Agricultural College supervision.

Arbor Day Program At Alder Crest School

Marshfield Again Targeted by Forged Check Gang
A gang of about six Austrians forged Houger and Houser checks to steal around a thousand dollars from Marshfield and North Bend merchants. Four men were captured the same night by Deputy Sheriff W. C. Laird and Sheriff Carter. two leaders escaped. Captured suspects identified as Sam Leger, Joe Davis, Joe Serich, and John Pronach. Two more members were captured later, one at Lakeside and another at Coquille. Authorities believe the group also worked in Chateau, Montana and Boise, Idaho, with Burns Detective Agency tracking leads.

McLaren Describes Rescue Work on Pacific Coast

Trusty Harry Kramer Missing From Coquille Jail Yard
Sheriff Alf Johnson reported Harry Kramer, a trusty, disappeared from the Coquille jail yard around noon after leaving Marshfield following a Front street saloon incident on October 23, 1914. He had been sentenced to six months to a year with about four months served and could have earned release earlier for good behavior.

Water System Installed by HDDLE Fork Farmers
Four Midle Fork ranchmen have joined to build a community water system in Myrtle Point near the Coquille River. The plant draws from a spring on razarloaf mountain and serves household use and stock, covering about a mile of pipe and costing around 800 dollars. Beneficiaries include Guerin Brous, T. M. Stover, Frazer Hoffman, and E. M. Hoffman with plans for a concrete reservoir and top-tier pressure improvements.

The logging town on the South Fork twenty five miles south of this place will be officially known as Powers replacing Wag ner. Constable Arrests Harry Brewster in Marshfield Assault
Last Friday night at Marshfield Severtson was slugged and robbed by a trio of attackers. He was thrown into Coos Bay and clung to a piling for hours. Brewster is accused of striking him, with another assailant hitting him in the mouth. About $90 was said to be lost. Brewster was detained by Timekeeper Zimmerman and later arrested by Constable Brown, then taken to Coquille by Sheriff Johnson.
