Grow Raspberries in Hills for Better Crops
D B Palmer advises raspberry planting in hills six feet apart with three plants per hill and a six foot stake for tying canes. The Perfection variety grows six to eight feet tall and is cultivated thoroughly during picking. After bearing, old canes are removed and, in spring, second or third year, canes are topped at about six feet. Planting 4000 hills yielded over pints of berries in the second year.

The 1914 harvest reached 2100 bushels, 1915 about 3000, with 200 to 4000 bushels annually in between. He advises prompt replacement of damaged trees, cover crops, ample manure, proper drainage, and soil suitability for bearing trees, noting orchards require more than initial planting to bear fruit. Well Known Barber Ira M Abbott Dies After Long Illness
Ira M. Abbott known as Jack died Saturday April 15 1916 at Myrtle Point after a lengthy illness. Born April 25 1882 in Sweet Home Oregon he lived in Scio North Bend Willamette Valley and Myrtle Point where he barbered since 1905 except for the Willamette Valley period. He married Alta Barklow May 20 1908 and left a wife two sons two brothers two sisters and many friends. Funeral services were held April 16 at the Church of the Brothers conducted by Elders Thomas and Charles Barklow with a large attendance and many flowers.
