First Mate James Orne, wife of the skipper, cabin girls Mary and Jane Orne all signed for summer coasting trips carrying lumber from Maine to New York and coal return. The Hiram, wintered in Mystic river basin, freshly painted with new rigging, sails repaired, hauled today and ready to depart when winds favor.

Washington May 1 The fiscal system governing federal deposits in National banks was revolutionized by Secretary McAdoo. All government deposits will bear 2 percent interest starting June 1, with an immediate $10 million increase in deposits bringing total to $52,649,964 and annual earnings of $1,053,000. He may boost circulation by enlarging balances in banks. The treasury will accept 70 percent government bonds and 30 percent high grade state and local bonds as security at 75 percent of market value, first time banks pay interest on active deposits.

New York May 1 Wm J Greenwood a taxicab driver was fined 5 for driving Miss Margaret Wilson the president's daughter and her escort up Broadway at 24 mph. The officer stated Greenwood claimed passengers were the president's daughter and Boyd Fisher and they were hurrying to a hotel for a professor bound for Princeton. Fisher appeared in court and paid the fine.
