Weed Park Club House Opens in Muscatine

A large crowd attended the opening of the Weed park club house in Muscatine. The two story frame building features a 34 by 31 foot main hall, dining room, ladies parlor, kitchen, and upstairs rooms with broad verandas and river views. A gala reception, banquet for nearly 1,000, and speeches by Mayor McNutt Rev J N Elliott and others celebrated the completion. The project honors benefactors William Huttig and floral park supporters, emphasizing public benefit for all citizens.

Night of dancing ends in city’s memorable affair

The event closed with dancers filling the streets as street cars waited, marking one of the most pleasing occurrences in the city for years and bringing the evening to a graceful close.

Quiet Wedding Unites Hoffman and Anderson in Home Ceremony

Cinch party hosted by Mrs Sneichen at West Fifth

Mrs. Sneichen entertained numerous ladies yesterday afternoon at cinch with Mrs Switzer winning a bon bon dish and Mrs P J Fahey taking the consolation prize. Refreshments were served. Guests included Mesdames Delehan Stockdale Niver Healey Fack Flannery Fahey Ryan Devitt Hacker Switzer Sneichen and Misses Elsie Fack Loretta Devitt Irene Ineichen.

Regular Rathbone Sisters Session in Irving Temple

The Rathbone Sisters held their regular weekly meeting last evening in Irving Temple. Two membership applications were received and referred to the proper committee. An event this evening offers a social gathering at their hall for members and guests. Mrs Kentner hosted about thirty ladies for an afternoon tea with sociability and light refreshments.

Pioneer Nicholas Engels Dies at 97 in Muscatine

Nicholas Engels a pioneer German resident of Muscatine passed away yesterday afternoon at 1 30 at his daughter Mrs Christ Hetzels home on Lucas street He was born February 28 1824 in Nachtheim Prussia He came to the United States in 1854 with his wife and children and lived in Muscatine since His wife died a year after 50 plus years of marriage The funeral will be held at St Mary's church Saturday at 9 am with Rev J I Grieser officiating and the body interred in the parish cemetery
