Odette Tyler, noted American stage actress, endorses Dean's Kidney Pills in a testimonial. She praises the remedy as equally gratifying to herself and friends and remarks that her career includes writing producing and leading in The Red Carnation.
A mixed ad and local report recounts an advertisement for Woan's Kidney Pills claiming kidney relief and lasting cures, followed by a Muscatine meeting praising the Weed Park district. Speakers highlight community philanthropy, park value, and local development including a beet sugar factory and natural gas tests, urging local loyalty and newspaper advertising.
A large crowd attended the opening of the Weed park club house in Muscatine. The two story frame building features a 34 by 31 foot main hall, dining room, ladies parlor, kitchen, and upstairs rooms with broad verandas and river views. A gala reception, banquet for nearly 1,000, and speeches by Mayor McNutt Rev J N Elliott and others celebrated the completion. The project honors benefactors William Huttig and floral park supporters, emphasizing public benefit for all citizens.
The event closed with dancers filling the streets as street cars waited, marking one of the most pleasing occurrences in the city for years and bringing the evening to a graceful close.
William F. Hoffman and Lettie R. Anderson were married last evening in their tastefully arranged apartment at Fifth and Mulberry. Rev. J. N. Elliott presided. The ceremony was intimate with close friends, followed by sociability and refreshments as well wishes flow for their future.
Mrs. Sneichen entertained numerous ladies yesterday afternoon at cinch with Mrs Switzer winning a bon bon dish and Mrs P J Fahey taking the consolation prize. Refreshments were served. Guests included Mesdames Delehan Stockdale Niver Healey Fack Flannery Fahey Ryan Devitt Hacker Switzer Sneichen and Misses Elsie Fack Loretta Devitt Irene Ineichen.
Mr and Mrs W N Wallace and Mr and Mrs Frank Warfield announce a reception at Hare's Hall next Wednesday evening October 4. Invitations were issued to many friends today. The event is expected to be a leading social function of the season with Thomas' full orchestra engaged for the occasion.
Mrs W Blanchard entertained Wilton ladies including Mrs A R Leith Mrs H Nicolaus Mrs H Witdasin Mrs D G Agnew and Mrs G W Bannick last evening and they attended the dedication of the Weed Park club house.
The Rathbone Sisters held their regular weekly meeting last evening in Irving Temple. Two membership applications were received and referred to the proper committee. An event this evening offers a social gathering at their hall for members and guests. Mrs Kentner hosted about thirty ladies for an afternoon tea with sociability and light refreshments.
Nicholas Engels a pioneer German resident of Muscatine passed away yesterday afternoon at 1 30 at his daughter Mrs Christ Hetzels home on Lucas street He was born February 28 1824 in Nachtheim Prussia He came to the United States in 1854 with his wife and children and lived in Muscatine since His wife died a year after 50 plus years of marriage The funeral will be held at St Mary's church Saturday at 9 am with Rev J I Grieser officiating and the body interred in the parish cemetery
Will Appel Clyde Randleman and Joseph Vanatta left for Rock Island to form a committee for purchasing new robes for Bankers' Reserves officers. The robes will be manufactured by Rock Island Regalia company and arrive in time for next Wednesday evening’s lodge meeting.
