Columbus Junction plans a hold fair event to showcase local vendors and community activities with tentative dates and program details to be announced. organizers encourage residents to attend and participate in exhibits and demonstrations.
A large crowd attended the Columbus Junction fair with about 12,000 on Thursday and estimates of 8,000 to 10,000 others. Bad weather delayed events but racing continued Friday and Saturday, with results for the 2:28 trot 2:12 pace and 2:17 pace, plus premiums awarded to several exhibitors including McPherson and Edgar. A boy was injured when run over by a bus at the fairgrounds Thursday evening, though officials say injuries are not serious.
Iowa City, Sept. 19. County Attorney Zmant says Mrs. James Gallaugher, jailed accused wife of a murder, has attempted suicide and if not closely watched may repeat. He notes need for force to restrain and fears flight if released on bail. In court she remains quiet and restrained, with only wavering emotion evident.
In Geneva Switzerland this morning thieves raided a postal van parked before a bank. They stole about $17,000 in cash and a large amount of valuables.
The statue of Gen. Henry Warren Slocum on the Gettysburg battlefield was unveiled today by New York Governor Odell with governors Murphy of New Jersey and Stone of Pennsylvania presiding. A number of Civil War veterans witnessed the ceremony.

The Republican committee of Iowa's Third District votes to hold a convention at New Hampton on September 25 to appoint a candidate to succeed Henderson after his withdrawal. Henderson declines to reconsider and will not resign as Speaker. The panel commends his congressional course and trusts GOP victory in the district.

In Justice Howe's court a tall poorly dressed woman asked how much to pay a fine in advance so she could "lick" her sister in law. The squire explained no permit to strike could be issued and the woman said she would pay the fine anyway to whip her sister before noon.
