Muscatine High elects DECA officers for club year

Muscatine High School distributive education students have elected officers for the DECA club. The organization promotes leadership in marketing and distribution, offers scholarships, educational tours, and conferences. Officers named include Nancy Stych and Mike Yocom, with Janice Trotter coordinating DECA.

Speeding arrests dominate Muscatine monthly report

Speeding violators accounted for more than a quarter of the 238 arrests in the Muscatine period ending Sept 14. Chief Glenn Axel lists 69 speeding arrests, second to intoxication with 39. Other figures include 17 for parking ticket failures, 11 for no license, and minor counts for disturbing the peace with a motor vehicle, contributing to delinquency of a minor, and assault and battery.

Trial ends in Van Dyke appeal before jury selection

Scott Van Dyke’s appeal trial concluded in district court after a jury was picked. He pled guilty to one speeding charge and profane language after earlier rulings, with fines of 100 dollars and 45 dollars, while one speeding charge was dismissed. Names of jurors were listed. Muscatine College offers 41 adult education courses

Muscatine Community college lists 41 evening adult education courses ranging from Beauty Care to Furniture Refinishing with locations at Muscatine high school, the college building, West Junior High, and Laura Musser Gallery. Maynard Eckhardt said brochures have been mailed and preregistration is by calling 263 8250.

First Christian Church Welcomes Rev Keller as Minister

Rev William E Keller has assumed duties as minister of the First Christian church. The Keller family has returned to the United States after years as missionaries in the Philippines. Whitmore Family of Muscatine Captures Small Town Portrait

The Robert Whitmore family at 1427 Devitt Ave includes Mr and Mrs Whitmore and four children. Robert has been a Muscatine postal carrier for 12 years. Jim, 17, a senior, works part time at Sun Mart and enjoys drama, photography, water skiing, and tennis. Linda, a UNI junior, majors in home economics education and works at Wester Drug. Tim, 12, loves football, basketball, water sports, drums, and yard work. Julie, 11, a McKinley sixth grader, swims, sails, plays flute, volleyball, sews, and is a Girl Scout. Family attends First Presbyterian Church.

UCS Pace Makers pledge drive hits early total in Muscatine

The United Community Services 1970 campaign opened strongly at a 7:30 breakfast at Hotel Muscatine hosted by First National Bank. Pacemaker Team No 1 led by George Zimmer reported 15790 in pledges after three days, while Team No 2 headed by Max Collins pledges reached 19700. The morning total of 35490 was nearly double the first report in 1969. UCS president Steve Keller noted added support for Muscatine Family and Children's Services, started in April, serving over 60 cases. Campaign chairman Art Dahil announced the next report meeting at Rotary Luncheon on Monday Sept 2.
