Five persons died in two crashes in northwest Iowa. A heavy thunderstorm hit the Keokuk area early today causing a fire blamed on lightning that destroyed a three story building slated for demolition in the urban renewal area. The storm followed broad rainfall across southeast and southern Iowa with 0.81 inches in Burlington and up to 0.25 inches elsewhere as rain and cool damp air persist through Friday and possibly snow in extreme northwest Iowa. In Des Moines, Gov. Harold Hughes and Sen. Jack Miller met about bridges over the Mississippi at Muscatine Clinton and Marquette and over the Missouri at Sioux City, focusing on repairs and faster action.
