Grace Lutheran dedicates land for new church building
Grace Lutheran Church held a dedication service for its five acre site at 2600 Cedar St. Keith Hallquist reported on progress as Anco Construction of Montgomery, Alabama holds the contract. The church will include a 400-seat sanctuary, fellowship hall, offices, youth room and 21 classrooms with Minnesota limestone and cedar exterior at an estimated total cost of 383000 dollars.

Driver charged after multiple accidents in Muscatine
Charges of failing to have her vehicle under control were issued in justice court to Deborah Lynn Middagh of route 5 after a motor crash in the 200 block of East Third Street Sunday. A Plymouth struck a utility pole causing $100 damage and injuries to Middagh. Earlier on Grandview avenue near Sampson Street three cars were damaged in a chain reaction involving a Mercury driven by George Lewis Fountain, a Bishop Oldsmobile, and a Burke Chevrolet. A separate Sunday wreck on Sampson at Grandview involved Geneva Mae McCleary and Gerald Duane Essex. the Dodge sustained left rear damage while the Pontiac skidded on gravel and struck the Dodge.

Northwestern Bell office damaged in attempted robbery
Interior damage at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. offices on Sycamore Street was reported after a Sunday night robbery attempt between 9 30 and 10 03 p.m. Entry to the main office failed and no items were taken. A separate Sun Mart store on Park Avenue reported a jimmied lock but no entry. Other incidents include boat damage at the riverfront, and theft of duck and goose decoys from a Sampson Street garage.

Infant Dies in Muscatine County Highway Crash
An infant girl Angela Kay Best age seven months died after a one car crash on highway 61 east of Muscatine. The child was dead on arrival at Muscatine General Hospital. Terrill Reinier 25 of Muscatine was driving the car with the mother Janet Best 19 and grandmother Mary Eva Best 36 also injured. The car went out of control in a rainstorm, hit a culvert and ended in a corn field. Funeral services will be held at 1 30 p m Wednesday at Geo M Wittich Funeral Home. Burial in Indian Creek Cemetery. Visitation starts this evening. The mother and grandmother were hospitalized with injuries. The death marks the first highway fatality in the county for the year.

United Community Services campaign kicks off in Muscatine
The 1970 United Community Services campaign began with a pacemakers kickoff breakfast at Hotel Muscatine. Art Dahl, 1974 campaign chairman, opened the meeting and thanked volunteers as Steve Keiler announced a $166,990.12 goal, 80 percent from pacemakers, with Harold Visher optimistic about meeting or exceeding last year’s result. The theme is People Helping People the United Way, and the next report meeting is set for 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the hotel.

Charges of malicious injury to property have been lodged against Carlos Ramirez at the Henderson garage incident. Ramirez, of 512 Liberty St, was picked up by police at 3:40 a.m. Sunday. Four large windows were reported broken at 119 E. Mississippi Dr. Justice Ray Pace continued the hearing to October 1.
