Reuters style dispatches from Petrograd and Washington report General Korniloff’s rebellion collapsing with surrender talks and Kerensky’s cabinet confirming Alexieff as chief of staff. Moslem troops abandon Korniloff, easing pressure on Petrograd while Kerensky seeks stabilization amid a fragile political climate.
An Associated Press report from Sept. 138 notes a division of General Korniloff's Moslem troops arrived at Tsarskoe-Selo fifteen miles south of Petrograd. Moham medan officer Kugusheff led talks resulting in the surrender of the so called savage division on condition they be sent home to the Caucasus and not used against Turks. Premier Kerensky agreed to the plan.
News from Petrograd reports strong Russian pressure forcing German cavalry posts south of the Riga Wen den road to withdraw. Russian fronts say advanced parties seized Mascis south of Lake Viacuda and fortified the Schkerolen Sila maya line amid fusillades. Italian Austrian battle near Monte San Gabriele rages with heavy Italian losses and renewed Austrian attempts. French and German fronts show artillery and trench actions with generally slight fighting activity due to harsh conditions.
Removal of Belgian civilians continues with Roulers evacuated behind the battle front in Flanders. Ostend is being emptied gradually with two thousand sent from Courtrai. Berlaer inhabitants are taken to Turcoing for fortifications and Slevding Flemish residents are forced to work on military roads.
Twenty four alleged Industrial Workers of the World members reached Douglas in a transport from Columbus New Mexico en route to Bisbee Arizona. Warrants reportedly exist for all men and arrests are expected.
A large contingent of American artillery has joined the expeditionary army and is well along with its intensive training under French supervision. They are using the latest models of the French seventy fives and six inch howitzers.
The senate approved a resolution to subject more than one million aliens living in the United States to the draft. If enacted, these aliens would join the draft in the order their draft numbers are drawn. Germans and subjects from enemy areas could also be drafted under presidential regulations. The measure aims to correct draft inequities and restores citizenship for Americans who had foreign oaths when enlisting. Provost Marshal General Crowder began reviewing ~1000 draft appeals filed with district boards.
Four automobile bandits rode into Sullivan Missouri early morning bound and gagged the night telegraph operator and two night marshals, bound a railroad worker, then looted the Peoples Bank. They cut telegraph lines, escaped toward St. Louis after also robbing the Union Post Office. amount stolen undisclosed.
