Martial law declared after riots in Buenos Aires left seven dead and 56 wounded. Ringleaders were executed in Plaza de Mayo as troops clashed with looters and central armories were set ablaze amid confusion following a revolution that toppled President Irigoyen.
The hurricane devastation in Santo Domingo spurred international medical aid. Dutch units boosted staff with 12 doctors and 14 nurses from Puerto Rico as US sailors and Dominican guards quelled a food riot at a relief wharf while water supplies were being restored and rationing organized.
Cedar Rapids reports the eastern Iowa regional unit of the Iowa Livestock Marketing Corporation sold 18 baby beeves weighing about 950 pounds each. Shipped by Charles F. A black powder bomb exploded in the doorway jolting his family and neighbors. Peter Rybicki said he received threats tied to his political activities and he serves as general counsel for the Polish Roman Catholic Union.
Peter Nicastro age 21 was found dead on South Canal street at Archer avenue after four bullets were fired into his head. He was alive when picked up, muttered sounds like Al Al, then said nothing. Police believe he was kidnapped for crossing a west side bootleg gang's turf. Nicastro had no prior police record.
Des Moines AP dispatch says a go-between sought to build an alibi in the James Sheridan kidnapping case. Friends of Sheridan say the messenger who delivered the ransom note may be tied to the abductors and pressed for a $10,000 release.

Irene Rastofer, 17, and Charles Thomas, 21, died after a collision on Primary No. 6 north of Centerville Iowa. Miss Rastofer rode with Lawrence Layman in a car that was side swiped by Tex Lamb of Keokuk. In the crash Large was badly wounded in the chest and Clifford Baugher was hurt.
An oil laden sailing vessel exploded in front of the Stand ard Oil depots at Drapetsonias harbor in Athens last night, destroying the vessel and igniting 18 nearby sailboats and one steamship. At least eight lives were lost and many crew members leaped into the water as flames spread, with fears of more fatally burned.
A Muscatine resident said placing an ad in the Journal Want Ad columns paid off as sweet corn for canning sold on the second call. Ad notes call for buyers and sellers meeting through the Journal.
Maine reran Republican strength in an off year, advancing Wallace H. White Jr. to the Senate seat held by Arthur R. Gould. Gov. William Tudor Gardiner won a second term, with White’s margin about 30,000 over Frank H. Haskell. Gardiner’s statewide tally was only about 16,000 over Moran, the smallest for a GOP governor since 1918. Voter total reached 147,000, the lowest since 1920.

New Orleans report says Capt. Nick Danese, a marine diver, was rescued alive just before 1 p.m. after being trapped 22 feet underwater since 11 a.m. yesterday under a city pumping station on Lake Pontchartrain while repairing a leak.
Broy Harding life term bank robber was captured on a dairy farm near Laramie Wyoming by Sheriff Edwin Bailey and a railroad special agent after his identity was confirmed. Harding had escaped from the Iowa reformatory at Anamosa ten days earlier.
Cincinnati report describes a new industry using molds fungi ferments and bacteria to replace machines and skilled labor. Scientists outline training a bacillus or fungus to produce citric acid for lemon juice and note risks from byproducts like oxalic acid.
Frank Dunkle, 48, a Berwick storekeeper, was severely burned when a stove exploded and fire destroyed his home. He, his wife, former Polk County federation president, and their three children escaped in night attire as gasoline leaked from the stove and flames spread. Dunkle was taken to a local hospital.
In Darien Georgia Sept 9 authorities report rubber Bryan 24 a second black man in a gang gunfight that killed a police officer and wounded three others was found dead with a shotgun blast in his back near a wood deputy sheriffs had hunted through the night for him. Coroner Crumley said Bryan was alive on discovery.
The state adding witnesses in a case alleging medicine and surgery without licenses at the Baker institute. Witnesses include Roy Ballenger the 18-year-old from Ft Des Moines, nurse Josephine Ruddy from Davenport and Dr William Bair of Des Moines. Bair testified Baker and Hoxsey and others directed treatments in back rooms and prescribed cases.
Chicago reports warn of a rising scam where housewives buy a cheap nationwide ginger ale at a mock low price. The salesman insists on payment by check, then raises and cashes it. One check was fraudulently inflated from 1.50 to 9,000.
