Cap t Dieu donne Coste and Maurice Bellonte take off from Le Bourget toward New York aboard the Question Mark. The route crosses southwestern England and Ireland with a 3700 mile journey aimed at a sundown arrival in New York, weather permitting.

The wreckage and bodies from 1897 polar balloon attempt by S A Andrée Knut Fridel Strindberg have been recovered and brought to Tromsø Norway aboard the sealers Bratvaag after nearly thirty years entombed in ice. Dr Gunnar Horn confirmed the preservation of Andrée's body as the Bratvaag halted at Hasvik and Skjær Island before reaching Tromsø. News of the discovery sparked a wave of rival expeditions as authorities prepared for public announcements.

New York gangster Jack Legs Diamond arrived in Antwerp from New York after passing Plymouth and Cherbourg. Police sought him for questioning about a Brooklyn arsenal and the disappearance of fellow gangster Harry Western. Diamond denied any detention and said he aimed to visit Vichy for health treatment.
Weekend accidents across Iowa killed four people and injured 13, including three in grave condition. Victims include Cammillius Hood of Livermore and Gordon D. MacDonald of Scranton, plus a Boone couple, and two Des Moines women. Police and sheriffs investigate causes as injuries scatter to Eagle Grove and Fort Dodge hospitals.

Authorities suspect train wreckers placed rocks on the rails near a curve. eight bodies were later reported by officials. Among the dead are engineer C. E. Ray and fireman E. T. White. Charles Newton and wife Isabel also died, with a 4-year-old Newton grandchild injured.
Des Moines reports the Weather Bureau forecast cooler conditions for Tuesday with mostly cloudy skies and much cooler tonight. The notice cites the bureau as predicting a drop in temperatures and lighter winds for the region.

Motorists along the highway near Clive reported damage to their cars as a group of hoodlums shattered windshields with thrown ears of corn. Several drivers told the sheriff they were molested by the attackers while traveling.
