Kansas City Nov 26 The robber who held up the Alton train near Glasgow is named Truehart from California. He seized 2000 dollars and watches which were later returned to passengers. The engineer identified him as the man who robbed the Rock Island train earlier this month and Truehart said his brother committed that theft. Rural guards capture eight men near Cienfuegos Havana dispatch says peace prevails throughout the island.
Cambridge Ill November 26 Special. The defense in the People of Illinois v William Nagel Jr. debates impeaching Josephine Collette evidence from Rock Island jail. The trial resumes with defense witnesses challenging jail statements while a second jury misinformation emerges.
The battleship Louisiana with President Roosevelt aboard entered Cape Henry at 9 am followed by cruiser Tennessee. The cruiser Washington suffered a disabled engine and will not reach the Capes until this afternoon. Later wireless said all well aboard and the President will likely reach Washington tonight.
Jack Whitney, 21, employed on a steam dredge at Purgatory slough canal, drowned when a scow capsized in nine feet of water about eight miles southwest of Manson. Night fireman escaped with difficulty. cries submerged by dredge noise. Whitney, a stranger to the area, body taken to Rockwell City. inquest planned.
Davenport Iowa reports Congressman Albert F. Dawson nominated Robert E. Hinrichs of Davenport to become a cadet at the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. Alternates named are Will Cummings Murray Flanagan and Carl Hinrichs. Hinrichs is a Davenport High School and University of Michigan alumnus with a strong officer profile. Cummings and Flanagan are Clinton High School graduates with Flanagan linked to Grinnell football.
Dr. O A Douglass took the stand in the Gillette murder trial at Herkimer New York testifying that Grace Brown died from injuries inflicted before her body entered Big Moose lake where it was recovered.

Washington reports a higher desertion rate in the U S Army for the year ending June 30 1906 at 7.4 per 100 soldiers, with 6 258 total desertions. The previous year 1905 saw 6 8 per 100. total desertions and related sentences reached 628.
Judge O Sullivan signed an order allowing appeal from the police magistrate's ruling in the Errico Caruso case. The Italian opera singer was convicted of annoying women in Central Park.
J Frank Emery proprietor of the Kentucky House was shot and killed during an attempted hold up in Kansas City Kansas. Lee Simons a porter was wounded while Charlie Rumble and Sam Hutton were captured after a chase on Main Street. Rumble was shot in the cheek. all three suspects were intoxicated.
Des Moines federal judge discharged the jury in the case of Rev. John H. Swift of Winterset who faced charges of attempting to extort money from banker W. J. Cornell by threatening to publicize alleged attentions to a choir girl. The jury stood 11 to 1 for conviction and Swift will be tried again at the next term.
Official canvass of Illinois returns shows Smulski 417 544 for treasurer, Pictowski 271 984 for auditor, Allin 88 395, McDermit 42 000, Francis 5 100. Counts reflect Republican and other third party candidates in the statewide tally.
