Muscatine observers vote to celebrate the 60th founding anniversary of the German Evangelical Church on February 14 1909. Trustees will arrange events and invite out of town speakers for the celebration. Memorial Sunday honored departed members with a program including Rev J Janson speaking Thy Dead and Thy Death.
On Tuesday evening November 24 Aerie 815 will host a banquet at their East Second street hall. Deputy Grand President for the southern district of Davenport will speak and six initiates will enter. M P Goff will toast. Committee leaders are Niebling Taggue Rains and Dermedy.
T H Beacom division superintendent for the Rock Island lines spent the day in Muscatine handling railroad business and visiting facilities.
Dr. Edwin Schell president of Iowa Wesleyan University preached at both morning and evening services at First Methodist Mt. Pleasant due to Rev. Thomas Osborn's quarantine. The church was well filled, especially in the morning where Schell delivered an excellent sermon.
A historical ad notes Dr Kings New Discovery as a remedy to neglect a cold or cough and claims it cures and prevents consumption. Available for 50 cents and 1.00, sold at Havercamp's Prescription Drug Store.
The Cairo Iowa area mourns Miss Jennie Tindall about 22, who died from a lung abscess. She died at her uncle Will Tindall's home in Montezuma while visiting. her parents Mr. and Mrs. B. T. Tindall arrived and brought the body home for burial. The funeral was at Cairo Bethel with interment in Cairo cemetery.
Albert Emmer aged 19 died in Grand Rapids after injuries from a football game at Sparta three weeks earlier. He was captain of the Unions, a group of local high school boys, and was knocked down in a rush, sustaining kidney injuries that were initially deemed minor but worsened over a week of illness.
Muscatine Athletics avenged a prior loss by defeating Rock Island Independents 19 to 0 at the Fair Grounds. The home team dominated with strong forward passes and hard running, Grady kicking a goal after a stalled drive, McCleary intercepting a pass for a 30 yard TD, and further scores by Ruckies and Grady.
Advertisement claims a cold can be cured in one day using laxative Bromo Quinine tablets. Druggists refund money if it fails to cure. Each box bears E. W. Grove’s signature and is priced 25 cents.
An advance copy of the History of Iowa Military organizations compiled by the state will arrive in Muscatine soon, with a note from Adjutant General W. H. Thrift. The eight volume work covers early Iowa units, the Spanish War period, and ranges from regiments one through sixteen in sequential volumes. Public institutions will receive copies, and private individuals may purchase the complete edition or individual volumes at actual cost.

Two basins are prepared one with boiling water and one with cold water. A teaspoon of Gold Dust washing powder is dissolved in the hot water. Brush bristles are shaken up and down in the hot solution until clean then rinsed in cold water. Dry the brush in the air or a warm place not near the fire. The back of the brush must stay dry.
