Refuse station visit planned by city group

Muscatine city officials including the zoning board will travel to Wilmette Illinois to inspect a refuse transfer station similar to the proposed Washington Street site. Attending are zoning board members John England Ed Caliger Bernice Leuck Chatfield Glen Brossart unable to attend and Dr J D McPike away. Also going are Charles Coates Warren Barnum Carl Tieke and Gil Dietz. Coates noted Wilmette’s station operates for about two years near residences. The zoning board will hold a public hearing Thursday at 6 30 p m on the request for a special permit to build the transfer plant.

David Stanley to Lead Iowa Cancer Crusade in 1972

David Stanley of Muscatine was named 1972 State Crusade Chairman of the Iowa Division of the American Cancer Society at the 25th annual Des Moines meeting. The Muscatine County chapter received two awards for 1971 crusade efforts and its 15th anniversary crusade, while County chairman Lola Higgerson earned a ten year Volunteer award.

Radiology Professor Honored For Cancer Control Efforts

Howard B Latourette, M D, professor of Radiology at the University of Iowa College of Medicine, received the bronze medallion for outstanding cancer control work. Katy Garver, known as Cissy from TV’s Family Affair, spoke at the luncheon. Muscatine representatives included Mr. and Mrs. Earl State, Mrs. George Ricketts, Nick Ogilvie, David Stanley, and Miss Lola Higger son.

Student death on ISU campus ruled self harm

Ames Police Chief A E Siedel said Gregory M Morris 21 of Des Moines was found hanging in his dorm room and judged the death as personal safety related with no sign of foul play. He noted it could possibly have been accidental and said Morris had likely been dead for some time after students forced entry upon hearing an alarm clock.

Mrs. Arthur Naomi Neu joined husband in Muscatine for a full day of campaigning in his Republican bid. The couple’s schedule included a morning coffee with Mrs. Herhey and an afternoon visit with the Jacks, a 5 p.m. hotel buffet, a 7 p.m. reception at the Wallis home, and a Republican fundraising dance at the Elks club with Gov. Ray expected to attend. Nell Neu, mother of two, balances campaign duties with Drake University French studies.
