Muscatine School Bond Final Push Aims For Passage
About 150 residents filled a Muscatine hotel breakfast to back a $5.1 million school bond referendum set for Tuesday June 3. The plan includes a new four year high school and a Washington elementary school, with a millage increase to 12 mills. If approved the senior high would serve 1200 to 2200 students and enrollment is expected around 1400 this fall.

Two separate accidents in Muscatine caused damage to five vehicles. At 2:50 p.m. on Clay Street and Grand Avenue, Robert Lamb and Mae Gast collided as Gast failed to yield at a stop sign, damaging Lambs front end and Gasts right side. At 11:25 p.m. on And Street and Cedar Street, Eldon Fortune Jr. and Lemoyne Reinsager collided, with Fortunes car damaging the intersection and Reinsagers car striking a parked vehicle owned by Shari Candies of Mankato.

Three Davis children injured in Stewart Road crash
Three Davis children Brandy 4 Ronald 3 and Mark 2 were treated and released at Muscatine General Hospital after a four car collision on Stewart Road. Olga Furnas Mikta Garcia and Barbara Bixby suffered rear end damage while a North ern Gravel Co truck blocked the traffic lane with a flat tire. The Davis car struck Garcia’s car prompting further damages. one child was later advised to seek care at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Muscatine Power and Water outlines new steps to curb red water by adding poly phosphates to sequester iron and manganese. Board approved the plan. equipment purchase and install to take several months. Peak pumpage reached 15 million gallons daily in 1968, with two wells added in 1968 and four more in 1969 as demand rose. Local power plant expansion progresses with a 66 000 kilowatt turbo generator, operation phased from Sept 1 to Nov 1, plus downtown improvement to improve service and voltage.
