Fire at 2 a m destroyed a saloon owned by Rhein hardt Vogel on the block near the St James hotel in Iowa City. The blaze threatened Murphy Bros livery stable but rain and volunteers under Chief Lenz saved adjacent properties. Vogel estimates losses around 15 000 with 10 000 insured. Willard J Welch chinaware dealer suffered about 2 000.
