Make the Scene Green volunteers cleanup Muscatine area
Volunteers from Boy Scouts Girl Scouts Civil Air Patrol and Muscatine Boxing Club joined National Guard Battery C 1st Battalion 185th Field Artillery Iowa in a citywide cleanup. About 50 volunteers cleared hill area near railroad Eversmeyer Pond and Weed Park collecting 11 truckloads of trash with guard support. City administrator Charles Coates expressed thanks and a volunteer picnic followed at the armory with discounted refreshments from St Clair Bottling and Hi-Vee. Guardsmen served as volunteers in non pay status with no drills scheduled.

Vigil for peace draws crowd at county courthouse
About 150 people braved a gentle rain for a candlelight peace vigil sponsored by Muscatine Citizens for Peace on Mother's Day night. Fr. Four year old Muscatine boy to start rabies shots
Bruce Proffitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Proffitt, was bitten on the left arm Thursday by a small dog with bushy hair and long tail near Madison elementary. The dog could not be found after newspaper, radio and TV appeals. Bruce began shots this afternoon. the dog would have been observed if found.

Weekend accidents investigated by Muscatine police
Two accidents investigated by the Muscatine Police Department over the weekend left one injured and resulted in two charges. At 12:55 a.m. Sunday, Ronald Allen Cross and Steven John Roelle collided at Park Avenue and Clay Street. Cynthia Brown sustained a minor cut but required no treatment. Both vehicles sustained over $100 damage. An earlier crash at West Second Street and Chestnut Street involved Gary Henry McDonald and John Wesley Hutchinson. Hutchinson was charged with unsafe tires and faulty equipment.
